Finance Committee

Our Financial Committee together with the Parish Priest is responsible for ensuring that the parish finances are properly maintained, and that the parish maintains a sound financial footing.  Canon Law requires collaboration between parish priests and the people of the parish so that decisions regarding projects and spending are done collectively. A Catholic Parish is not a business and shouldn’t be run like one, it is a community and her finances are at the service of The Mission; Our Purpose. (click here ****See ‘Our Purpose’) The members of the Finance committee at St. John Fisher, Perivale are:

  • Fr. Peter Shekelton (President)
  • Peter Augustine (Chair)
  • Jucimara Merlin (Secretary)
  • Simon Rossi
  • Maher George
  • Surit Pinto
  • Sharon El-Nawar

Choir

Our choir, both singers and musicians, lead the singing at our Masses and celebrations. Different members play and sing at each of our Sunday Masses. On special occasions like Christmas and Easter they all come together as one. They rehearse on Wednesday evenings for an hour and occasionally on Saturday mornings to practice and to learn new music (timetable on the parish calendar).

“We are always keen to welcome new members, no musical knowledge or experience needed, just a desire to contribute to the musical prayer of the parish! Please contact the parish office or just turn up to a rehearsal if you are interested.” (The Choir).

Youth Outreach

Youth Outreach (Yo!) is the name under which we organise most of the activities for young people in our parish. All our activities for youth, be they Pastoral, Informative, Spiritual or Social should help prepare young people to REACH OUT to the world they live in as Missionary Disciples of Jesus Christ and as witnesses to His Good News.

We try to organise an activity every month. Please see our monthly calendar for days and times of activities.

Post-confirmation (led by Neo-Catechumenal way)

Post Confirmation is a programme available to young people after they have received the sacrament of Confirmation. It originates from the Neo-Catechumenal Way Catholic Movement.  It’s been in place for several years at St John Fisher, Perivale and is supported by members of the Movement who reside in or near our parish. It’s made up of small groups of young people which are looked after by a Sponsor Couple who meet each week on a Friday, and the Parish Priest once a month, to explore their Catholic faith. Young people may join on concluding their confirmation program each year. It lasts up until the age of 18 at a time when the Church really wants to accompany our young people as they navigate all the difficulties of teenage life and to come to know God as a Father who loves them very much.

Volunteers

The Parish belongs to the community, i.e. the people that come to church here and participate in the activities and programs, whether they live nearby or come from a far. A sense of ownership and identity with the community is what makes the volunteer. Without our community volunteers there would be no community life because there would be no genuine spirit of service. We must always be grateful to our community volunteers.

We are all called to serve each other and participate actively in a Christian community, it is an integral part of our Christian vocation.  And when we serve we should do so freely, i.e. without expecting anything in return.  Some people may be volunteers in a charity or organization that has nothing to do with the parish and that’s fine. A mother with young children may have no time for anything else and that’s fine too. Also, there are times in life when commitments, responsibilities or even ill health hinder us from giving our time as volunteers to anything, other than our family, and that’s also fine. But generally, in life, as followers of Jesus we should always have someone we’re serving freely.

Within our parish community there are many opportunities to serve as a volunteer; cleaners, gardeners, flower arrangers’, catechists, IT, money counters, church greeters, sacristans, altar servers, Eucharistic ministers, readers, handy men/women, musicians and singers, administrative work, or as a participant/member in one of our parish groups or committees. Someone may have a particular skill of trade that they may wish to offer to the community.

If you have a particular skill and think you could help in some way, or if you would like to volunteer generally please send an email or to the parish office or speak to the Parish Priest.

Bible Study Group

Every month a group meets in the Parish room to read and study the bible together. This usually takes place on the fourth Friday of every month but please check the Newsletter for details. All are welcome.

Rosary for Men

As the name suggests, this group brings together all men every second Tuesday of the month to pray the Rosary in the church, followed by a time of fellowship in the parish room. It offers an opportunity to build community and support one another.
